2013 ഡിസംബർ 6 മുതൽ 13 വരെ തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തു വച്ചാണ് മേള. മത്സര വിഭാഗം ചിത്രങ്ങളുടെ ജൂറിയായി മെക്സിക്കൻ സംവിധായകൻ ആർതുറോ റിപ്സ്റ്റെയിനും സമഗ്രസംഭാവനയ്ക്കുള്ള അവാർഡ് നേടിയ കാർലോസ് സൗറയും മേളയിൽ പങ്കെടുക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. 56 രാജ്യങ്ങളിൽ നിന്ന് 16 വിഭാഗങ്ങളിലായി 209 ചിത്രങ്ങൾ മേളയിലുണ്ട്. റെസ്‌ട്രോസ്‌പെക്ടീവ് വിഭാഗത്തിൽ ഫ്രെഞ്ച് ന്യൂവേവ് സംവിധായകൻ ഴാങ് റെനോയ്‌റിന്റെ അഞ്ച് സിനിമകളും യുഗോസ്ലാവ് സംവിധായകനായ ഗറോൺ പാസ്‌കൽ ജെവിക്, ഇറ്റാലിയൻ സംവിധായകൻ മാർകോ ബലോച്, ജാപ്പനീസ് സംവിധായകൻ തക്കാഷി മൈക്ക് , ഫ്രഞ്ച് സംവിധായിക ക്ലേയർ ഡെനിസ് , ജർമൻ സംവിധായകൻ ഹാരുൺ ഫറോക്കി എന്നിവരുടെ 37 ചിത്രങ്ങളും പ്രദർശിപ്പിക്കും.
കലാമൂല്യമുള്ള നല്ല സിനിമകള്‍ വളര്‍ന്നുവരേണ്ടത് കാലഘട്ടത്തിന്റെ ആവശ്യമാണെന്നും അതിന് സര്‍ക്കാരിന്റെ ഇടപെടലും സഹായവും ആവശ്യമാണെന്നും പ്രശസ്ത നടി ശബാനാ ആസ്മി അഭിപ്രായപ്പെട്ടു.
കേരളത്തിന്റെ പതിനെട്ടാമത് രാജ്യാന്തര ചലച്ചിത്ര മേളയില്‍ മലയാള സിനിമയുടെ പ്രായം സംബന്ധിച്ച് പുതിയ വിവാദം മേളയുടെ നിറംകെടുത്തി. മലയാളത്തിലെ ആദ്യ ശബ്ദചിത്രമായ ബാലൻ എന്ന സിനിമയെ അടിസ്ഥാനമാക്കി മലയാള സിനിമയ്ക്ക് 75 വയസാണെന്ന ചലച്ചിത്ര അക്കാദമിയുടെ ബുള്ളറ്റിനിലെ പരാമർശമാണ് വിവാദത്തിന് വഴി തുറന്നത്. എന്നാൽ ഇതിനെതിരെ സംവിധായകൻ കമൽ രംഗത്തുവരികയായിരുന്നു. 1928 ല്‍ ജെ.സി ഡാനിയേല്‍ ഒരുക്കിയ വിഗതകുമാരന്‍ എന്ന നിശബ്ദ സിനിമയുടെ പിറവിയുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട കഥയാണ് സെല്ലുലോയ്ഡിന്റേത്. വിഗതകുമാരൻ എന് സിനിമ മുതല്‍ കണക്കുകൂട്ടിയാല്‍ മലയാള സിനിമയ്ക്ക് 85 വയസാവും. എന്നാൽ ആദ്യ ശബ്ദ ചിത്രമായ ബാലൻ എന്ന സിനിമയെ കണക്കിലെടുത്താണ് മലായള സിനിമയ്ക്ക് 75 വയസെന്ന് ബുള്ളറ്റിനിൽ നൽകിയത്.
The International Film Festival of Kerala ( Anthardeshiya chalachitrolsavam keralam) is a film festival held annually in Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum), the capital city of Kerala, India. This film festival was started in 1996 and is hosted by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy on behalf of Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Kerala.
കേരളസംസ്ഥാനസർക്കാരിന്റെ സാംസ്കാരികവകുപ്പിന്റെ ആഭിമുഖ്യത്തിൽ വർഷംതോറും നടത്തിവരുന്ന അന്തർദ്ദേശീയചലച്ചിത്രമേളയാണ് കേരള അന്തർദ്ദേശീയചലച്ചിത്രോത്സവം. 1996-ലാണ് ചലച്ചിത്രോത്സവം ആരംഭിക്കുന്നത്. 1998-ൽ ചലച്ചിത്ര അക്കാദമിയുടെ സ്ഥാപനത്തോടെ മേള അക്കാദമി എറ്റെടുത്ത് നടത്തിവരുന്നു. തിരുവനന്തപുരമാണ് മേളയുടെ സ്ഥിരംവേദി. എല്ലാ വർഷവും ഡിസംബർ രണ്ടാമത്തെ വെള്ളിയാഴ്ച്ച തുടങ്ങി ഒരാഴ്ച്ചയാണ് അന്തർദ്ദേശീയചലച്ചിത്രോത്സവം നടക്കുന്നത്. ചലച്ചിത്രോത്സവത്തിൽ ഏഷ്യൻ-ആഫ്രിക്കൻ-ലാറ്റിനമേരിക്കൻ രാജ്യങ്ങളിൽനിന്നുള്ള പുതിയ ചിത്രങ്ങളുടെ മത്സരവും ഉൾപ്പെടും. മൂന്നാം‌ലോകരാഷ്ട്രങ്ങളിൽനിന്നുള്ള ചിത്രങ്ങൾക്കാണ് മേളയിൽ പ്രാമുഖ്യം. ലോകചിത്രങ്ങളെയും മറ്റ് ഇന്ത്യൻഭാഷാചിത്രങ്ങളെയും മലയാളിക്ക് പരിചയപ്പെടുത്തുക എന്നതാണ് ചലച്ചിത്രോത്സവത്തിന്റെ ലക്ഷ്യം. ദേശത്തും വിദേശത്തുമുള്ള പ്രമുഖരും ചലച്ചിത്രാസ്വാദകരും കേരളത്തിന്റെ അന്തർദ്ദേശീയചലച്ചിത്രോത്സവത്തെ വൻ‌വിജയമാക്കുന്നു.

Contemporary World Cinema, New Malayalam Cinema, Retrospectives of Major filmmakers, Homage and Tributes, Contemporary Indian Cinema, Short films and Documentaries are screened during this film festival. Film Market and Seminars on important issues concerning Cinema are being scheduled in the festival. The festival is now permanently held at various cinema halls in Thiruvananthapuram. The festival is always noted for its public support. The festival is perhaps the only one to have screenings for residents of a jail, a juvenile home(Poojappura Central Jail, Thiruvananthapuram) and a poor home (Sri Chitra Poor Home).IFFK 2013 Schedule
IFFK History
The Directorate of Film Festivals, Govt of India held the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) at Thiruvananthapuram in 1988. The festival ushered in interest in serious films and subsequently several film societies were born throughout the state. The activities of the societies included screening of classic films from around the world, conducting group discussions on various aspects of cinema and circulating pamphlets on renowned film-makers. The film societies obtained copies of films from archives and from embassies of some countries as a part of culture-exchange programmes. The film society movement helped to raise film literacy among people and the need for an international film festival to the level of the IFFI came up. The first edition of the IFFK was held in Kozhikode in 1996. Incidentally, the festival was held in the 100th year of cinema and 100 films were screened as a part of the event. The event was managed by the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) till 1998 when the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy was formed and was bestowed with the responsibility of conducting IFFK along with other activities for promotion of cinema. Later, the FIAPF accredited the festival and a competition section was added to the event in 1999. The competition is limited to films produced in Asia, Africa or Latin America. The 'FIPRESCI (Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique) and the Netpac (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) have also recognised the festival2013 IFFK Film List

IFFK Awards
- The Golden Crow Pheasant Award: Suvarna Chakoram and a cash prize of Rs.1,000,000/- (about US$20,000) to the best feature film to be shared equally by the director and the producer
- The Silver Crow Pheasant Award: Rajata Chakoram and a cash prize of Rs.300,000/- (about US$6,000) to the best director
- Best Debut Film Award: Rajata Chakoram and a cash prize of Rs.200,000/- (about US$4,000) to the best debut director.
- Audience Prize: Rajata Chakoram and cash prize of Rs.100,000 (about US$2,000) to the Director of the most popular film voted by the festival delegates
- FIPRESCI Award: For the best film chosen by the Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique.
- Netpac Award: For the best film in the competition section from Asia, chosen by the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema.
- Newly Introduced Awards: In 2007, two more awards from the FIPRESCI and the Netpac are introduced, which will be awarded separately to the best Malayalam films at the festival.
